Established in 2011, YMK Nagaoka is a manufacturer specializing in rattan furniture located in Nagaoka City in Niigata Prefecture. Currently, five artisans are passionately engaged in the production, repair and renewal of various custom-made rattan furniture such as chairs and beds, valuing handwork and creativity. In order to preserve and nurture the culture and industry of rattan furniture in Japan, the company believes that it is important to constantly challenge new things while preserving and passing on the techniques established by veteran craftspeople. The company is constantly pursuing the new value of rattan furniture by developing new products that combine different materials, as well as by promoting and proposing the products to a new generation of designers and architects.
These two types of armless chairs are synonymous with YMK Nagaoka. They are lounge chairs designed by Isamu Kenmochi, a world-renowned interior designer, in 1960 for the bar lounge of Hotel New Japan, a pioneer of modern hotels in Japan. These are Isamu Kenmochi’s masterpieces. The C-3160 model is wider than the C-3150 model so that even a bigger-sized person can sit on it comfortably.
The beautiful curves are achieved by hand weaving with a subtle degree of force, which cannot be expressed by using a machine. Therefore, each piece is made by skilled artisans after receiving an order. The feeling of being comfortable when sitting on the chairs is almost like being gently wrapped in air. The texture and essence of the chairs will fit your body better with longer usage.
