Sado Megumi Tea Series
Brillian (Niigata)
The caffeine-free natural blend tea series is made using wild plants native to Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. Every manufacturing process from harvesting, drying and roasting of tea leaves to packaging is carried out by the company on the island. In hope of renewing the image of teas made from wild plants as being hard to drink, the company has focused on the optimal blend. The roasting time and heat are adjusted for each tea leaf and the mild taste is achieved by adjusting the amount of leaves in 0.1 g increments.
The teabags are made with “Soilon,” a plant-derived biodegradable material. Blessed with rich nature, Sado Island is home to more than 1,000 varieties of wild plants. With permission, the company harvests these wild plants on privately-owned and abandoned lands on the island, while also carrying out maintenance work such as undergrowth clearing and pruning. The company also purchases tea leaves from residents of the island, which is appreciated as an effective way to earn income in their spare time.
Among the product lineup, Tobishima-Kanzou Blend is a truly unique item made with rare wild flowers and plants that can only be found in two places in Japan. The company has spent about three years to develop a technology that allows preserving the beautiful yellow color of the Tobishima-Kanzou leaves, which is also contained in Kuromoji Blend, Ichijiku Blend and Kakinoha Blend teas. Believing in manufacturing with consideration for the nature’s blessings, the company stives to make teas from wild edible plants on Sado Island in hope of bringing them closer to more people.
