Ushiku Wine

Ushiku Chateau Co., Ltd. (Ibaraki)

“Ushiku Wine” was born at Ushiku Chateau, known as Japan’s first full-scale wine brewing facility during the Meiji era, the dawn of Japanese wine. The founder, Denbei Kamiya, pursued the ideal of making genuine wine by importing grape seedlings from France and purchasing 120ha (at its peak, 160ha) of land, starting cultivation on 23ha of it. At its peak, the vineyard expanded to 160ha, with approximately 130,000 grapevines. As a result, “Ushiku Wine” emerged as a main product of the Meiji era. Now, 122 years after its founding, Ushiku Chateau is once again pursuing its wine, harvesting Merlot grown in the fields on its premises, and has completed a new “Ushiku Wine” in the Reiwa era. The label design of this new wine incorporates the design of the wrapping paper used in the Meiji era, with the hand-drawn design adorning the wine as a main feature even in the Reiwa era. Ushiku Chateau Co., Ltd. continues to offer wine that is loved across generations by valuing history and tradition while integrating modern technology.Ushiku Wine offers a sweet and elegant flavor, gently wrapped in a delicate aroma with a soft, light attack. A refreshing and pleasant acidity unfolds across the palate, creating a fresh and harmonious finish.
