Inspired by the traditional Tottori dish “Zugani-meshi,” which originally used freshwater crab, the recipe was adapted by using red snow crab and seasoning it with locally produced Tottori soy sauce to create a takikomi-gohan (seasoned rice) flavor loved nationwide. To allow people to enjoy Tottori’s winter culinary tradition of crab year-round, this frozen gourmet ekiben was created. The rice is cooked together with “crab miso” and “crab meat” using local soy sauce, while the crab meat topping is specially seasoned to retain its delicious flavor even after heating in a microwave. The packaging and container were also carefully designed, with the crab-shaped container created from a custom mold and made from an eco-friendly material that includes 10% plant-derived ingredients.
