U-DOT, a lightweight, soft, custom shoe that easily molds to one’s feet, is meticulously crafted by skilled shoemakers at a workshop in Tokyo’s Asakusa. Unlike traditional shoes that use two pieces of leather for the front and back, U-DOT is made from a single, thick yet supple piece of leather. Embracing a minimalist design, U-DOT avoids harmful glues, linings, or reinforcements as much as possible, allowing the wearer to experience the natural comfort of leather and the warmth it brings. The allure of U-DOT also lies in its rich array of colors. There are three types of loafers with a choice of 46 different colors for the leather and material for each part of the shoe, along with a selection of six sole types. Delivery takes approximately 4 to 5 weeks following order. Moreover, a strong emphasis is placed on “sustainably crafted excellence,” with a commitment to “locally visible craftsmanship” by sourcing materials and carrying out production within a 10 km radius of the factory in Asakusa. Additionally, a circular project has been initiated this fiscal year. Adhering to a policy of minimizing inventory, unwanted U-DOT shoes are collected from customers and pulverized via special technique. The resulting materials are then repurposed for shoe components and construction materials such as displays.
