POI-IT is a non-contact rubbish bin that opens and closes automatically by way of a high-precision sensor. That means waste can be discarded at any time without touching the bin, or when one’s hands are full or wet, thereby increasing convenience in daily life. By holding one’s hand over the sensor, the lid will open and close for a period of approximately five seconds. It can also be opened by bringing your knee close to the sensor, which is ideal when both hands are full. Physically touching the sensor will keep the lid open. The butterfly-type lid opens to both sides for a more compact and space-saving design and to keep lingering odors to a minimum. The bin is powered with three AA batteries so it can be placed anywhere without the need for an electrical outlet, including the living room, kitchen, office and even the bedroom or toilet. The slim design belies the fact it can hold nine liters of garbage while dedicated rubbish bags fit snugly into the container. The off-white and grey colors provide a sense of cleanliness and go well with any interior.
