Botchan Coffee
Cafekobo Matsuyama LTD. (Ehime)
This locally made drip filter coffee is delivered from Matsuyama City in Ehime Prefecture. The packaging features the main character of one of the most famous works by the popular Meiji era writer Soseki Natsume called “Botchan” that is set in Matsuyama as well as a well-known tourist area of Ehime. Café Kobo Matsuyama was founded in 1994 for the sale of coffee beans. Botchan Coffee was released in 1996 based on a desire to deliver a unique local coffee. The first product in 1996 was Iyokan flavored, using the peel of the Iyokan citrus fruit, a famous fruit from Ehime. Next came the Nakayama Chestnut-flavored coffee in 2013, which blends in the shell of locally grown chestnuts, and in 2023, Botchan Coffee introduced strawberry-flavored coffee using dried strawberries from Saijo, which are grown using the underground water from Mount Ishizuki, the highest peak in western Japan. These products aim to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by incorporating Iyokan peel, chestnut shell and nonstandard dried strawberries. In addition to the beautiful aroma of the original blend, the Iyokan-flavored coffee offers a refreshing scent while the Nakayama Chestnut coffee brings a sweet fragrance, and the Strawberry coffee has a slight sweet and sour smell. Each coffee offers the perfect way to relax.
