SUNTORY SHOCHU THE OSUMI
SUNTORY LIMITED (Tokyo)
Osumi Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture is known as a producer of shochu, or Japanese distilled spirit, with a long history. The Osumi is a series of new authentic shochu co-produced by Osumi Distillery, which continues to pursue new possibilities of shochu while preserving the long tradition, and Suntory, Japan’s leading alcoholic beverage manufacturer. The most distinctive features of The Osumi shochu are the rich aroma and light taste. The key lies in Suntory’s original distillation method that extracts only the undiluted sake reflecting the natural aroma of the base ingredients without off-note flavors. This was brough to life by applying Suntory’s expertise backed by its 100-year history of whiskey making to the tradition of shochu distillation. With one sip, a rich aroma pleasantly fills your senses, letting you enjoy a lingering aftertaste. The series has three types of shochu: The Osumi (Wheat) brewed with Suntory’s unique yeast that has an elegant aroma with a refreshing taste; The Osumi (Sweet Potato) that has a sweet fragrance and complex flavors derived from Koganesengan sweet potatoes; and Kaoru Osumi (Wheat and Jasmine), a shochu developed exclusively to be served with soda that blends undiluted wheat and jasmine sake in best balance. Presented by the company with absolute confidence, these shochu can be enjoyed with soda or on the rocks to savor the natural flavors of the base ingredients.
