Shisyuoshibori & Shikioshibori
Shisyuoshibori.com Kabushiki Kaisha (Osaka)
Shisyuoshibori offers oshibori wet hand towels embroidered with company logo/store names or seasonal motifs such as flowers. A service usually offered to guests in restaurants or bars to wipe their hands before or during the meals, oshibori is a traditional culture unique to Japan born out of omotenashi spirit. Sadly, the tradition of oshibori is gradually disappearing today and the fact that it doesn’t have a good image because it is mostly white, plaid and plain, and lacks design or originality may be one of the reasons why.
Thinking that oshibori may affect the impression of the place as it is the first thing served when the guest arrives, the company came up with the idea of creating towels that delight the guests by making them with high-quality, fluffy and soft fabric embroidered with the name of logo of the store. Just like Japan has dishes for each season, they also thought that it would enhance the enjoyment at a restaurant if you are served with a hand towel embroidered with a seasonal motif. This way, the company believes that the guests would appreciate the tradition of oshibori thus leading to protecting one of the important cultures of Japan.
In addition, oshibori towels meet all of the 3R principles of reuse, reduce and recycle. What’s more, by embroidering the oshibori, it would reduce the disposal rate to less than 1%, which contributes to realizing the SDG 12—sustainable consumption and production.
