EDO KIRIKO guinomi SUIKYO series

KIRIKO TORIKO (Nakamiya KIRIKO koubou) (Tokyo)

The Edo Kiriko guinomi Suikyo is a series of sake cups designed with subtle pastel colors as well as exquisite cuttings that let you enjoy the beautiful shadows created with the casting of light. Produced by Ms. Ryoko Nakamiya who was certified as a traditional artisan of Edo Kiroko glassware in 2019 for the first time as a woman, the series features gentle colorings that give a soft impression, which is rarely seen in Edo Kiriko products. The name “Suikyo” is inspired by the mellow feeling when drinking from an exquisite glass.
In hope of producing new and unprecedented Edo Kiriko glassware, the Suikyo series combines deep, bold cuttings with pale colors that are rare in recent Edo Kiriko products, which are created using original glass material produced by the atelier. The thick glass produced by working closely with a glass blower is applied with deep cuttings, letting you enjoy the pale colors that mix in the glass as well as the shadows casted on the table. In addition to the smooth rim, the shapes of the cups are designed to allow drinking in a natural and beautiful manner while the wide mouth lets you enjoy the aroma of sake even more.
All items are handmade in Shinagawa in Tokyo, which is known as the birthplace of modern glassware. Imbued with the hope of providing the users with an enjoyable and comfortable time possible, the smooth texture is achieved thanks to the cutting and polishing techniques of the skilled artisans.
