This product is a fully customizable wooden wheelchair, which will fit the body size and shape of each single user. Because the wheelchair is a part of a user’s body, it is made of wood that gives a sense of the warmth of nature and attachment to wheelchair users. Until now, wheelchairs were made of inorganic metal and tended to have a negative image of a “tool for the disabled.” The company wants to dispel the negative image and not only enable users to live their lives positively and with pride, but also bring a personal attachment to those who see the beautiful design of wheelchairs and bring hope to society as a whole. To reach to the current custom-made order production sales of the wooden wheelchairs, it took 10 years from the product concept to realizing the detailed parts, and achieving the practical use of the prototype. In order to realize both strength and design, the company uses a woodworking technique called “bentwood,” in which a single piece of wood is used instead of grafting to make the parts. The 180-degree bentwood of the casters of the front wheels and the beautiful perfect circle of the handle of the rear wheels are manufactured using the advanced technology unique to a furniture workshop by carefully controlling the moisture content of the wood.
