The Nambu ironware kettle depicts the Yin and Yang taijitu diagram. The philosophy of Yin and Yang originated in Ancient China, stating that all properties are comprised of opposing qualities, such as plus and minus, man and woman, sun and moon, day and night, and water and fire. A key design aspect of this kettle is the lid, which can be shifted to enjoy the change in pattern. Half of the circle is in plum flower patterns, representing Yang (light) and colored in silver. The solid designed half represents Yin (dark) and is colored in black. Underneath the spout is a small design of a single plum flower petal. In addition, there are two kanji characters embossed on the inside: 神 (god) and 富 (wealth); this is the company’s exclusive technique, and created with the hopes that good luck melts into the water when boiled in this iron kettle. With consideration for usability, the handle is wrapped in leather so it is not too hot to hold.
