VARCO REAL WOOD is a unique leather brand that combines soft and bendable natural wood with hand-dyed leather to let users enjoy the warmth of wood. In consideration of life in a cashless society, the thin and compact wallet was created after much trial and error in pursuit of minimalist design by eliminating unnecessary structures as much as possible while also focusing on usability. The main feature is the wood sheet applied with Japan’s sophisticated wood veneering technology backed by tradition. By slicing the wood into paper-thin slices with 0.2 mm thickness and bonding a non-woven fabric on the back, it was made possible to flexibly bend and sew the wood sheet. Then, the wood sheet and leather are pasted together using company’s own technique, which enabled creating leather products that are both strong and flexible with great usability. In addition, the cowhide used in the products has been hand dyed in the company’s atelier using eco-friendly water-based leather dyes. Because the leather dyeing is done by hand, it allows using only the minimum amount of dye required thereby preventing waste that presents a hazard to the environment. Made by combining wood sheets applied with veneering technology that was born to make effective use of limited resources and eco-friendly hand-dyed leather, the wallet is imbued with Japanese delicate aesthetics.
