Run by the 18th generation owner and his successor, Le Verger Yamayo is a family orchard dedicated to cultivation of Le Lectier, a superior pear variety produced in Niigata Prefecture, as well as Japanese pears and grapes. Originally introduced from France, Le Lectier pears are known as the “Phantom Pear” rarely found on the market as they are vulnerable to diseases and difficult to cultivate. In fact, these extremely rare pears are no longer produced in France due to a disease and are currently being cultivated only in Japan with 90% of the total production grown in Niigata. The pear has a bright yellow color and a melting texture with a rich fragrance and a luxurious sweetness. It is no exaggeration to say that Le Lectier pears are a nature’s miraculous gift that fascinates many.
