Cafe de Oranget

HITACHIFUGETSUDO Kabushiki Kaisha (Ibaraki)

Yokan is a traditional Japanese dessert that has a form of a firm jelly which is usually made of red bean paste, agar-agar and sugar. Made to pair with coffee, Cafe de Oranget is a yokan with a citrus scent that enhances the flavor of coffee. It is a new confection that uses Yirgacheffe coffee sourced from the local Tadaima Coffee store that goes well with orange peels while the rum gives a rich taste.
Founded in 1948, HITACHIFUGETSUDO has been creating Japanese sweets under the motto “passing on smiles and tradition to the future.” Nowadays, the number of Japanese confectioners is on a decline as younger generations are moving away from traditional Japanese sweets. If such trend continues, Japanese confectioneries will disappear one day, which means a decline of an important aspect of Japanese culture and tradition. This has forced the company to break with tradition and create innovative products to stimulate people’s interest in Japanese confectioneries. While traditional Japanese confectioneries are typically enjoyed in combination with matcha or green tea, this bite-sized piece of yokan uses orange peel and rum to bring out the best of bitterness, aroma and acidity, which are the three elements of coffee, so that customers can also experience Japanese culture with a cup of coffee.
