Nama Momiji Manju
NISHIKIDO CO., LTD. (Hiroshima)
Momiji Manju is a long-selling sweet from Hiroshima Prefecture known for its “momiji,” or maple leaf shape, but this product is a “namagashi” type that has more moisture content and a unique chewy texture, which has been well received as a popular souvenir from Hiroshima since its launch in 2009. It comes in three kinds: koshian (smooth red bean paste), tsubuan (chunky red bean paste) and matcha-flavored red bean paste. Made using rice flour produced in Hiroshima, the dough offers a springy texture like mochi rice cake. Both koshian and tsubuan sweet red bean fillings are manufactured in-house using carefully-selected red beans produced in Tokachi, Hokkaido, while the matcha-flavored red bean filling uses abundant premium matcha tea from Nishio in Aichi Prefecture. The surface of the manju as well as the package are designed using deer on world heritage Miyajima Island as a motif and have been received favorably by customers.
Each manju can be purchased individually at the company’s own stores so that customers can easily enjoy them as a snack at home.
