2021 Gold

These shorts for outdoor use made of Kurume Kasuri was produced through collaboration between Flipworks Co., Ltd., which has been producing products that mix traditional crafts with outdoor items, and Sakata Orimono Inc. that manufactures Kurume Kasuri, a traditional textile originated in Fukuoka Prefecture over 200 years ago.
Kasuri is Japan’s traditional cotton fabric characterized by its “blurred” appearance, which is believed to be the origin of its name. Kurume Kasuri is characterized by the intricate beautiful pattern brought about by a combination of warp and weft kasuri created through “kukuri” technique. It has a unique texture, which the more you wear it, the more comfortable it feels on the skin.
Recognized as an important intangible cultural asset, the weaving is carefully done one by one through a highly sophisticated technique that requires approximately two months to complete through a process of about 30 steps.
This product uses thick fabrics that are durable, easy to move and comfortable, designed for outdoor conditions while the combination of different fabrics creates a unique style. In addition, repair service is also available so that the customers can enjoy the products for years to come. While protecting the tradition of Kurume Kasuri, the company continues to take on new challenges to pass it down to the future generations.
