tabino ondo

HINODEYA SEIKA CO., LTD (Mie)

Founded in 1957 in Yunoyama Onsen, a historic spring town in Mie Prefecture boasting a history over 1,300 years, Hinodeya Seika has been delivering confectionery appreciated as a unique souvenir by tourists visiting the area. While people have become reluctant to travel due to the spread of COVID-19, the company staff have asked themselves once again what souvenirs can do in such circumstances. One of the answers they came up with was the new brand “tabino ondo.” As the brand name meaning “tabi” (travel) and “ondo” (vibes) represents, the company has visited several locations in Mie Prefecture and carefully selected local ingredients in hopes to offer confectionery that lets customers who cannot travel there feel the vibes of the areas. This time, Hinodeya Seika has produced a series featuring tea varieties grown in Mie, namely, “Ise Matcha,” “Japanese Black Tea” and “Hojicha” Based on the concept of “travelling confectionery,” the packaging introduces the production area and nearby landmarks in a style of a travel journal with illustrations. Developed in collaboration with Kitano Lab in Kyoto with a patissier who has 30 years of experience, the new feuillantine and paste made by adding Western elements to Japanese ingredients propose a new way to enjoy the company’s signature “Yunohana Senbei” crackers boasting a 60-year history while bringing the experience of travel to customers at their home.
