“Korewaumai” is a walnut bun created during the Taisho period about 100 years ago. It is a rather unusual name, but many customers who tried it said, “Kore wa Umai!” meaning “this is delicious!” in Japanese, which became the name of the product. The sweet red bean paste is made from specially selected red beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, and is wrapped in a dough made from wheat flour harvested in Nagano Prefecture and plenty of pure subterranean water from the Alps pumped up from 200 meters underground at their confectionery factory. The package was renewed in the autumn of 2020, and its illustrations are designed by Samiro Yunoki, a dye artist who is attracting attention in Japan and abroad. Now and then, the product continues to gain popularity and anyone who eats can’t help but say “This is delicious!”
