Tree’s bento box

ICHIBA MOKKO CO., LTD. (Hiroshima)

This set of wooden toys that resemble a Japanese bento box is made from wood sourced from forests in Hiroshima Prefecture. Each piece is made one by one by hand with care at a female-only workspace, which is rare for a woodworking company. The pieces are only partially colored with domestic paints that conform to the Food Sanitation Law so that users can feel the texture, warmth and scent unique to wood. The product has been appreciated by many customers as a nice birthday gift as well as interior decorations. It uses mizuhiki decorative cord as well as traditional “wappa” wooden bento box so that it conveys not only Japan’s woodworking but also the country’s bento box culture. The box contains two onigiri rice balls (hinoki), a hamburger steak (bigleaf magnolia), two rolled omelets (hinoki), a mini tomato (hinoki) and lettuce (felt). Wood shavings from cypress or cedar are used as cushioning material, which can be also used as drying material if you pack them in a sachet bag. In consideration of the environment, use of artificially dried wood is reduced as much as possible and air-dried wood is used instead.
