ALUMIUM is an aluminum frame brand produced by Aluna Co., Ltd., a Japanese aluminum picture frame manufacture that celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2022. Though the picture frames may look simple at first, they are produced through the hands of various craftspeople including casting from raw materials, surface treatment, cutting and assembly. Each frame has its own reason and function for being simple in shape, but most importantly, frames must enhance the artwork/picture, which is the main object, not distract from it. With this in mind, ALUMIUM picture frames employ a simple yet sophisticated design to accentuate the object while blending well with the room. The aluminum used is made in Japan and the surface is processed in a way to preserve the texture of the aluminum. The UV acrylic is used to protect the framed object from light damage. Details such as screws and metallic parts to hang the string have been also refined. Such ongoing efforts support the brand, which has received awards at the Good Design Awards 2019 and the DFA Design for Asia Awards in 2020.
