Kintsugi set

Minowa Shikko Co., Ltd. (Fukui)

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic pottery or glass by rejoining fragments using urushi lacquer sprinkled with powdered gold. While cracks or chips on a vessel usually lower its value, kintsugi highlights such imperfection with a touch of gold instead of hiding it to enhance its beauty. The method of repairing broken items using urushi lacquer has been practiced since the Jomon period in Japan (ca. 3,000-300 B.C.) The use of genuine gold powder makes the restored piece of pottery even more beautiful.
