KANAMO is a flower vase, or an art object, that expresses fluctuation. It was created by CHROMES Corp., a company specializing in production of made-to-order ornamental metals for luxury brand shop displays. Since this is a custom-made product, it can be transformed into various interior items.
All matters existing in nature fluctuate. It is said that fluctuation, such as the irregularity, vagueness, slight gaps, and flickering of fire, may have the effect of comforting and calming people. From ancient times, the Japanese have been apt at artistic expression that harmonizes with the beauty existing in nature, as seen in karesansui, or dry landscape Japanese gardens, which create a miniature stylized landscape using rocks and plants to represent ripples in water and mountains, to entertain guests.
Inspired by the shimmering water and the beautiful ripple wave of light, CHROMES Corp. has incorporated its long-cultivated techniques to express fluctuation in its design.
To create irregular and complex shapes, skilled craftsmen put time and effort in each process from bending stainless-steel plates to create unevenness, welding and polishing— all carried out by hand. Because of this, every item is unique, made only for each specific customer. It glitters with light refracting on the rippling surface of the metal. The ever-changing moments are solidified into a shape, so that they can be gazed at any time. The Japanese concept of enjoying such natural beauty is embodied in KANAMO.
