Established in 1819, Miyao Sake Brewing Co is a historic brewery located in Murakami city, Niigata Prefecture. Murakami is an old castle town surrounded by natural fortresses — the sea, mountains and rivers. Since the Edo period (1603-1868), this region has been known for its artificial incubation of salmon and sake brewing. Miyao Sake Brewing has a secret recipe book for its sake, which has been passed down for generations. Together with this knowledge, the brewery combines tradition with innovation to create award-winning sake. It specializes in tanrei umakuchi, a rich yet light sake and its Jun brand has been ranked first place for 22 consecutive years in a local sake popularity ranking. The brewery’s daiginjo-shu premium sake is a leading Japanese brand that received the Gold Prize at the 2019 Annual Japan Sake Awards.
