magnets
Shiozawa Seisakujo Co., Ltd. (Tokyo)
While traveling, you have probably had the experience of having to give up bringing traditional crafts back home due to their large size. These “takes away Japan” magnets were created as portable souvenirs by Shiozawa Seisakusho Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of metal fittings for “mikoshi” – miniature shrines – based in Sumida Ward in Tokyo. Featuring designs of the local ukiyoe artist Hokusai Katsuhika, such as “Fugaku 36 kei (36 views of Mt. Fuji)” and the oldest work of manga – “Choju-giga (Frolicking Animals and People),” – Japanese patterns are engraved on these magnets using Japan’s traditional “tagane” chasing tools. Because they are small and light, the magnets can be easily carried and can be used in various ways, letting you appreciate Japan’s traditional crafts in your daily life. It is a product infused with Japanese style down to every detail, including its Japanese kiri Paulownia wooden box used as a package.
