First lady model tatami tote (L) Kurashiki canvas No.4
TATAMI SHOP AOYAGI (Chiba)
This mother’s bag made with natural materials embodies the “omotenashi spirit for babies” of a long-established tatami store founded over 90 years ago in Choshi City in Chiba Prefecture. In addition to being a popular choice of parents who want to provide items of true value to their children, this bag has also been presented to VIPs around the world, including the British Royal Family. They are made using soft rushes that are usually discarded because they are too short in length for tatami mats, and stained leather material that would otherwise go to waste, so the bags are environmentally friendly and affordable. More than 90% of domestic soft rushes are produced in Kumamoto Prefecture, but since the earthquake in 2016, the number of farmers continues to decline. The first lady model tatami tote is infused with the hope of the manufacturer to show a way for farmers to create new products using soft rushes.
