FLYHIGH TAKOE CLUTCH BAG
ATLIER GIFU Inc. (Gifu)
Flying “tako” (kites) is a typical image for New Year’s Day in Japan. FLYHIGH TAKOE CLUTCH BAG was brought to life to enable the use of tako in everyday life all year round. Each “takoe” (kite painting) is made all by hand by using “Ise-katagami” paper stencil craft on Mino-washi, a type of Japanese paper created in Gifu Prefecture. First, a light color paint is applied and left to dry; then, paint is coated on top again to make the piece waterproof and flexible while maintaining the texture unique to washi paper and the charm of the hand painting. Another unique feature is that Ise-katagami is used for the eyelets while kite string is used as a closure for the bag. A “maneki-neko,” which is believed to bring good luck, and a “daruma” talisman, for focusing on personal goals, are drawn so that the users can feel the meanings of these motifs every time they use the bag. FLYHIGH TAKOE CLUTCH BAG is a product created through a blending of Japan’s traditional materials and techniques.
