Sendai Glass was originally crafted in the Sendai area of Miyagi Prefecture during the Edo period. No written documentation about the technique was left behind, making it difficult to replicate. The Sendai Glass Project began in 2010 as a way to revive traditional craftsmanship, based on glassware displayed in a local museum that had a very distinct green hue. The modern version of Sendai Glass is made using sand from the Hirose River, and is available in seven different styles.
