Kumihimo Bracelets was made in collaboration between a jewelry designer who makes products using Japanese techniques and materials and Mr. Chikuhou Hirata, a renowned Japanese kumihimo braiding craftsman, based on the idea of Japanese spirit with western learning. Mr. Hirata, who is the head of approximately 100 kumihimo craftsmen, places an emphasis on the importance of Japan’s traditional techniques and the use of silk braids in his work. There are several ways of braiding, so each craftsman has his/her own preference. However, by specifying the braiding method and as well as other factors, such as the length of the braid for the bracelets, they are able to produce items more effectively with consistent quality. The bracelet, which has been designed to enhance the beautiful patterns and the colors, is imbued with traditional beauty and modern sensibility.
